Our Impact

In 2025, the Columbus Education Foundation proudly awarded 40 scholarships to deserving Columbus ISD students for the 2025–2026 school year. These scholarships, totaling $89,050, reflect the foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting educational opportunities and helping students pursue their academic and career goals.

Through the generosity of donors and community partners, the Columbus Education Foundation continues to invest in the future of Columbus ISD students by easing the financial burden of pursuing higher education.

2025 Scholarship Spotlight

CEF College and Trade Scholarships

The Columbus Education Foundation College and Trade School Scholarships are made possible through the generosity of our community. Funds raised from CEF’s annual fundraisers, along with donations from supporters, go directly toward providing scholarships that help Columbus ISD students pursue higher education or skilled trade training. These contributions ensure that local students have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in their chosen paths.

Martin Williams Jr. Scholarship

The Martin Williams Jr. Scholarship was awarded to Columbus ISD students in 2025 who plan to continue their education at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or pursue training at a trade school. This scholarship honored the legacy of Martin Williams Jr. by supporting students who are dedicated to furthering their education and building successful futures through academic or technical pathways.

Aleks Medrano Scholarship

The Aleks Medrano Scholarship was awarded to a student pursuing a career in healthcare, coaching, or a trade school education. Created in memory of Aleks Medrano, a beloved member of the Class of 2025 whose life was tragically lost during his senior year, this scholarship honored his spirit and aspirations. It served as a lasting tribute to Aleks by helping future graduates achieve their dreams while carrying forward his legacy of determination and heart.

Leon & Beatrice Obenhaus Grodhaus Scholarship

The Leon & Beatrice Obenhaus Grodhaus Scholarship is awarded to a Columbus ISD student who plans to attend a college or university. Established by Leon and Beatrice Obenhaus Grodhaus, this scholarship reflects their belief in the power of education and their commitment to supporting future generations in reaching their academic goals.

Urban & Elizabeth Burtschell Scholarship

The Urban & Elizabeth Burtschell Scholarship is awarded to a Columbus ISD student planning to attend a college or university. Established by the Urban and Elizabeth Burtschell family, this scholarship celebrates their dedication to education and their lasting impact on the community by helping students pursue higher learning opportunities.

W.H. Miekow Education Foundation Scholarship

The W.H. Miekow Education Foundation Scholarship is awarded to the top two Columbus ISD students with the highest overall averages in math and English. This scholarship recognizes outstanding academic achievement and encourages excellence in two core subject areas that provide a strong foundation for future success.

Apply for a Scholarship

The application deadline for the 2025-2026 CEF scholarship cycle is April 1, 2025. A list of available scholarships can be found on the Columbus High School website under "Student Resources". Applications must be submitted to the Columbus High School Counseling Center.
